Eastwood Parish Church

Eastwood is a parish in Renfrewshire that forms a suburb of Glasgow. It is located to the south-west of the city, and contains the town of Pollokshaws in addition to Giffnock, Thornliebank and surrounding residential areas. At the time of the 2011 census, the parish population stood at 56,612.

To the north of the parish is the extensive Pollok Country Park, rich in history as part of the Old Pollok Estate and ancestral home to the Maxwell Family. Pollok House, their grand country house is now in the care of the National Trust for Scotland.

Parish church

The present Church of Scotland church was built in 1863, in the transitional Gothic style. It was designed by Charles Wilson, who died before its completion, assisted by David Thomson. Its stained glass windows include examples by the Royal Glass Painting Establishment in Munich and by Gordon Webster. It is a Category B listed building and family church of the Maxwells.

Transport

The M77 motorway passes through the east of the parish, with junction 2 (for the B762 Barrhead Road) and junction 3 (for the A726 Nitshill Road).

The railway stations in the parish are Shawlands on the Cathcart Circle line; Polokshaws West and Kennishead on the Glasgow South Western Line; Thornliebank and Giffnock on the East Kilbride branch of the Glasgow South Western Line; and Williamwood and Whitecraigs on the Neilston branch of the Cathcart Circle line.
