The Guildhall, Much Wenlock, Shropshire

Much Wenlock

Much Wenlock is a small town in central Shropshire. It is found between Shrewsbury and Bridgnorth. Nearby, to the northeast, is the Ironbridge Gorge, and the new town of Telford, but Much Wenlock is a place of old-style charm still, with Wenlock Priory and the Guildhall.

The Wenlock Olympian Games set up by Dr William Penny Brookes in 1850 are centred in the town and in venues across Shropshire and are credited with inspiring the Modern Olympic Games. (Read more)
