Chickney is a village and parish in the Dunmow hundred of Essex. It is situated on the B1051 road, near the village of Broxted, three and a quarter miles south-west of Thaxted.[1] In 2001 the population of the civil parish of Chickney was 38.[2] Chickney has a church dedicated to St Mary[3] which is Grade-I listed and is a redundant church in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust.[4] Chickney was recorded in the Domesday Book as Cicchenai.[5]
