Dornock is a small village in Dumfriesshire, close to the shore of the Solway Firth and just a mile west of Eastriggs, and two miles east of Annan.
Dornock is built on the county's coastal plain, on the coastal B721. Dornock Burn runs east of the village and the railway between Annan and Gretna is north of the village. The mud and sand banks of the Solway Firth are less than one mile away to the south.
History
In 1333 a minor battle of the wars of England and Scotland was fought here. Here William Douglas Lord of Liddesdale with 50 men stood to resist a force of 800 English soldiers marching north in support of Edward Balliol's claim to the Scottish throne. Little is known of the details of the battle, but twenty-four Scots died, and two Englishmen, and Lord Douglas was captured.
