Mount Ward is the northernmost of the Steeple Peaks, a small group of five hills which run from here southward to the shore of George VI Sound. Mount Ward climbs to about 2625 feet above sea level.
The hill was seen from the air by the Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition on 23 December 1947, and named after W Ward, of Beaumont, Texas, Editor of the Beaumont Journal and a supporter of the expedition. The mountain was surveyed by the British Antarctic Survey from "Stonington Island", 1961-62, and identified as the feature originally sighted by Ronne, its position then being corrected.
