Nottingham

Nottingham is a city in Nottinghamshire, of which it is the county town. It is one of the largest "Core Cities" of the United Kingdom: the 'Greater Nottingham' area has a population of some 667,000 souls.

Nottingham is famed worldwide for its links with the legend of Robin Hood and for its castle, which stands in the middle of the city and features in those legends. Another remarkable feature is the caves all about the city, which gave it the old Welsh name "House of Caves".

During the Industrial Revolution Nottingham obtained international recognition for its lace-making and bicycle industries. It was granted the status of a city as part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of Queen Victoria in 1897. (Read more)
