River Clyde

The River Clyde is a major British river, primarily in Lanarkshire, which county is formed of its valley and basin. At Glasgow, the Clyde opens up into a broad seaway which becomes the Firth of Clyde, an arm of the Atlantic Ocean. The Clyde is the ninth-longest river in the United Kingdom.

Flowing through the major city of Glasgow, the Clyde was an important river for shipbuilding and trade in the British Empire and a hub of the Industrial Revolution. Higher in Clydesdale, he river powered New Lanark Mills, a model development in the early indiustrial days. (Read more)
